Sino-European Health Summit | October 7th, 2021

On October 7th, 2021, we successfully held our Sino-European Health Summit. Co-operating with AsiaBerlin, the Health Summit was one of several satellite events throughout the AsiaBerlin Summit (4th – 10th of October) in Berlin.

Taking place online and offline, with Spielfeld Digital Hub in Berlin as the physical venue, the Health Summit is committed to connect stakeholders in the healthcare sector, ranging from corporate leaders and KOLs to startup founders and R&D representatives that have considerable interests in the Chinese and European healthcare market . Through five panel discussions and two keynote speeches, the summit addressed emerging healthcare trends and discussed Sino-European collaboration models within private and public sectors.

 

Addressing how digital health regulations can be considered as a chance for international companies, the first panel further discussed topics ranging from the electronic patient record (ePA) to digital health applications (DiGA) and their reimbursements in Germany as well as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the opportunities and risks that come along. 

The panelists included Dr. Markus Leyck Dieken (CEO at gematik GmbH), Stan Sugarman (CCO at GAIA AG), Lina Behrens (Managing Director at Flying Health), Marek Rydzewski (CDO at BARMER) moderated by Dr. Valerie Kirchberger (CMO at heartbeat medical).

In line with the Summits’ topic, the second panel discussed success stories of Sino-European Healthcare Collaboration. Moderated by Fiona Hui Hui 惠慧Daniel Frerichs 费瑞翔 (Director Europe at Huangpu), 王丛绛Dr Ruby Wang (China Head of Health at Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office), Verena Kantel (China Speaker at GHA – German Health Alliance) and Kai Uwe Bindseil (Cluster Manager at Cluster Health Capital Berlin Brandenburg) shared their insights on collaboration models between China and Europe, as well as the advantages of Berlin as a healthcare cluster for international companies. Additionally, we heard firsthand insights into a position paper on GER-CHN Cancer cooperation, which is currently discussed among industry partners, and how the Greater Bay Area is evolving towards Asia´s Future Healthcare Hub No. 1.

With special regards to healthcare providers, the third panel discussed how data is currently transforming their landscape. Questions included but were not limited to: Where are clinic chains in Germany positioned in comparison with other countries, what are the road blockers, is the KHZG resulting in a better B2B interaction and how can longevity and data collection complement each other. 

The panelists were Monika Rimmele (Head of Digital Transformation at Siemens Healthineers), Maximilian Greschke (CEO at Recare), Evelyne Bischof, (Associate chief Physician at Shanghai Renji Hospital), Dr. Djordje Nikolic (CEO at consus clinic management GmbH), Hieronimus Nickl (Managing Director at Nickl & Partner Architekten), moderated by Dr. Lara Maier (Medical Director at Caspar Health).

For more than a year, Covid-19 has been challenging and reshaping our healthcare systems in different ways and ever since the question where we are in the digital world of our healthcare systems came along. The fourth panel discussed what kinds of digital health innovations have experienced a boost through Covid, and which solutions have permanently been established, all in the Sino-European context and an example of how to face Covid differently.

The panelists included Oliver Hayden (Director of Technical University of Munich), Monika Fischler (Senior Manager M&A at Sartorius), Dominik Böhler (Professor for Digital Health at Deggendorf Institute of Technology), Dr. Zhong Yu (Founder and CEO at Meridian), moderated by Caroline Diekmann (Medical Doctor at Charite).

Represented by Min-Sung Sean Kim (Managing Director at Digital Health Ventures), Dr. Marco Huesch (Senior Advisor at PING AN), Bjoern von Siemens (Founder & CBO at Caresyntax), Hongping Cai (Chairman of AGIC Capital) and Sophia Neisinger (Medical Doctor at Charite) as a moderator, the last panel elaborated the VC and startup landscape in China and Europe and outlined opportunities the Chinese healthcare market brings for European startups
